Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. They made the move to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five and attended the Dragon School. Emma was just six at the time she decided to become an actress. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford in which she learned acting and singing. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in numerous Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaption to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents through the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. After eight continuous auditions, director David Heyman told Emma and the other candidates Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint they were cast as the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The movie's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. It broke all records in opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie of 2001. The film has been praised by critics for its film as well as the performances by the three main young actors. The highly distributed British daily The Daily Telegraph called her acting performance as admirable. Emma's performance won her a nomination and was awarded five more times for the film.
